Poisson processes #
A Poisson process is a way to model series of events which happen at random intervals with a known mean. Precisely, a discrete process \(\{N(t)\mid t\in\mathbb{N}\}\) indexed by time is Poisson with parameter \(\lambda\) if the number of events in any interval of length \(\tau\) is distributed \(Poisson(\lambda\tau)\).
